📋 Release Overview
Our biggest release yet. Two headliners — TORO Promotions, buy-3-get-1-free deals that run themselves at the register, and TORO Telephone, now available to every store — on top of a reimagined customer kiosk, a rebuilt Closing Report, cash drops, quick items, and a great deal more. Twenty-six of the changes below started life as a request from one of your fellow store owners, and each one is credited by name. Full details below.🏷️ Two new modules
- TORO Promotions — “buy 3, get 1 free” runs itself: two-minute deal wizards, a purple PROMO tag on every discounted line, and a header chip that announces the deal. 14-day free trial.
- TORO Telephone, for every store — a real phone number that rings your staff’s cells, logs every call, and flags the ones nobody caught.
💵 At the register, and at the end of the night
- QUICK ITEMS — your five best sellers pinned to the top of the menu, one tap from the cart.
- A rebuilt Closing Report — where every dollar came from, with checks, wholesale and comps each in their own block, and Total Sales that finally means the money you actually took in.
- Cash drops and payouts — record cash moving in or out, print a wrapper for the safe, and get a reminder before the drawer gets fat.
- A rebuilt Daily Report — view any day, week, month, quarter or year, compared against every same day of the week you’ve ever had — with graphs.
- Coupons, start to finish — more than one coupon on a sale, an Apply Coupon list you tap instead of a code nobody remembers, and receipts that spell out every discount.
- Tips, sorted out — a Marked No Tip tab, an ask-at-the-register prompt, and a way to run a tip on a PIN-debit sale.
- One tax line on the receipt, if four stacked tax rows aren’t what you want.
- The check number prints on the receipt —
Check #1234instead of justCheck, so a stack of checks reconciles itself.
👥 Your customers and your staff
- The customer kiosk, reimagined — customers sign themselves up, see personal picks that are actually in stock, and build an order for your staff to pull.
- Find Customers — pull a list by answering a plain-English question instead of filling in twenty filters.
- Two customers, one person? Combine them — and TORO retires the empty duplicates by itself.
- The Account Change Log — every change to a customer or employee record, with what it was, what it is, and who did it.
- Unpaid account items, impossible to miss — a red bar shows what an attached customer owes, and TORO picks the items that fit the money they hand you.
- Employee Points, all in one place, with bonus points you can hand out yourself — plus employees added in four short steps, and staff cigar purchases that round their change like every other cash sale.
📦 Your inventory and your back office
- Safety stock on any item, a suggested cushion for the ones that keep coming up short, and three fixes to receiving.
- Inventory Locations — every shelf and backstock assignment on one screen, with a history you can roll back.
- Five new reports — Overstock (where your money is stuck on the shelf), Top Customers, Misc Line Items, Tips & Commissions and SMS Activity — and the Company sales report now opens in seconds instead of minutes.
- Your website’s hours stay current — TORO publishes your store hours straight to your website, and proves it with a Send Hours Now button.
- Find an item by the manufacturer’s SKU, choose which sku goes on the sale, and add your own shapes and colors.
- My Store Documents — licences and logos with expiry countdowns, ready to email to a vendor in one tap.
- Your closing reports now actually go out, even if the internet dropped or you missed a night entirely.

🏷️ Introducing TORO Promotions — Deals That Run Themselves
Set up “buy 3, get 1 free” once, and the register does the rest.TORO Promotions is a brand-new module that runs your multi-buy deals automatically. Buy 3, get 1 free — or get the 4th at any percent off — and the moment a sale qualifies, the discount goes on by itself. No coupons to hand out, no cashier doing math at the counter, no deal that only works when the right employee is on shift. The cheapest qualifying item is always the one discounted, every time, so the deal costs you exactly what you decided it would.
Your first deal takes about two minutes. The Promotions screen opens with ready-made wizards — a deal on one item, a mix & match across a brand or product type, or a hand-picked list — that ask a few yes/no questions in plain words and hand you a working deal. When you want full control, Build Your Own opens the complete editor: brands, specific items, product types, your own tags (including a tag that counts toward the deal but can never be the giveaway), start and end dates, days of the week, time-of-day windows, pack limits, and a per-sale cap. Not sure a rule does what you think? Press Test an item, pick a real item off your shelf, and TORO shows every rule it passes or fails and whether it could be the discounted one.
Everyone can see the deal working. On the sale screen, a purple PROMO tag sits on every line the deal discounted — right-click it for the full breakdown of what was discounted, what counted, and what can never be free. Across the top, a deal chip announces the running deal, counts down the last hour before a scheduled one starts, and opens with a tap into a customer-friendly card the cashier can read out loud. Tapping into the deal editor from the register always asks for credentials first.
Refunds keep the deal honest. If someone returns the items that earned a deal while keeping the discounted one, TORO warns the cashier by name before the refund goes through, and records the decision in the refund notes.
$149.99 a year, billed on your signup anniversary as a line on your regular TORO invoice, with a 14-day free trial so you can run a real deal before you pay anything.
How to activate: Dashboard → Modules & Integrations → TORO Promotions, or the Promotions card on the Transactions tab.

📞 TORO Telephone — Now Available to Every Store
The oldest problem in retail is the call that rang while everybody was busy.TORO Telephone has been running in a real cigar shop for months. As of this release, any store can have it. Until now it was switched on for one store only; the card was there but nobody else could buy it. That gate is gone.
It gives your shop a real, dedicated phone number run through TORO — one you hand out, put on your website and print on receipts. When somebody calls it, TORO doesn’t ring a handset sitting on a desk that nobody is standing next to. It rings the cell phones of the people you choose, so the call reaches you at the register, in the humidor, or next door grabbing lunch. Whoever picks up first gets the customer. You decide who is on the list, how long their phone rings before the call moves on, and whether each person should only be rung while they’re clocked in — so nobody’s evening gets interrupted after they’ve gone home. Your staff’s personal numbers never appear on anyone’s caller ID; the customer only ever sees the store.
Callers hear a greeting you write — a warm “thanks for calling, hold while we connect you” before it rings through, and something equally polite if nobody can pick up right then. When you genuinely can’t take calls, for a private event or inventory night, you can stop the phones ringing and let callers hear a message instead of an endless ring.
Every call is written down. Call Logs shows who called, when, whether it was answered or missed, which member of your team answered it by name, and how long it lasted. Across the top, report tiles turn that into something you can act on: time on the phone, connected calls, missed calls, average call length, and Potential Lost Revenue — your missed calls multiplied by your average ticket, with a separate figure for the missed callers who were already your customers. A By Person breakdown shows how each of your staff is doing.
And the moment a call slips through unanswered, a red alert appears on your home screen, so somebody can ring that person back before they call the shop down the road. One click does it — TORO rings your phone first, then dials the customer, so the call goes out from your store number and your own stays private.
$54.99 a month, billed as a line on your regular TORO invoice. That covers the number, the forwarding, the greeting, the logs, the callback alerts and one-click calling — no per-minute meter and no separate phone bill. For most shops it replaces the landline outright.
How to activate: Dashboard → Modules & Integrations → TORO Telephone. If the card still shows a padlock, clicking it opens the details and a signup screen with a missed-call calculator, so you can see what those calls are costing you first.

👥 Find Customers — Pull a List Without Learning a Filter Screen
Start with a plain-English question, not twenty boxes.Find Customers is the new, much simpler way to pull a customer list, and it replaces the old Account Query Tool everywhere. Instead of a wall of filters, you start with scenario cards grouped down the left — Win It Back, Your Best Customers, Trending, Visit Habits, Occasions (birthdays and anniversaries), Rewards Points, Coupons, and more. Tap one and you get the people, ready to act on. Each card even shows roughly how many customers match before you click it.
A “Who do you want to reach?” toggle across the top — Everyone, Texting, Email, or Both — instantly narrows any list to just the people you can actually contact that way, so you never build a text campaign around customers who never gave you a mobile number.
When you do want the fine control, Build my own search opens the full advanced filters — dates, spend, visits, membership level, tags, brand, company, item — with a live count that updates as you type, so you can see the list growing or shrinking before you run it. Name it with Save Search and it comes back as a tile under the Saved Searches tab, shared across every station: save one at the front counter and it’s waiting for you in the back office.
From any set of results you can Export to CSV, Tag the customers, or Add them to an SMS Campaign — and the SMS Campaign Editor’s “Filter and Find” button now opens this same window, so you pick your list and hit Use these customers.
How to activate: the Find Customers tile on your Dashboard, or Tools → Customer Management.

👥 Two Customers, One Person? Now You Can Combine Them
Their history stops being split down the middle.Sometimes the same customer ends up in TORO twice — once under their mobile, once under a home number, or because an online order came in while another till was already ringing it up. Their purchase history ends up split across two records, so neither one tells you the truth about what they actually buy.
There are two new tools on the Customers tab of the Dashboard. Possible Duplicate Customers finds records that share a phone number and shows them side by side, with how many sales sit on each — pick the record you want to keep, press Combine, and everything from the other one moves across. Merge Accounts is for the ones a phone number won’t find: pick any two customer records, and TORO merges the one on the left into the one on the right.
Either way, everything moves — sales, tabs, rewards, gift certificates, items on hold, store credit and any saved card on file. Nothing is deleted; the record you merged away is simply marked inactive, and both records keep a history entry showing exactly what happened and who did it.
TORO also tidies up the empty ones by itself. When this update lands, TORO looks for duplicate customer records that were never used for anything — no sales, no tabs, no credit, no saved card — and deactivates them, keeping the real record untouched. Your managers get a message listing exactly what it did. Anything with real history on both sides is left alone for you to decide, and customers sharing a placeholder number like 123-456-9999 are never touched.
And the cause is fixed. Two tills downloading the same online order at the same moment could each create the customer, and once somebody had two records TORO stopped recognising them entirely — so every later online order made yet another. Both of those are fixed, so the pile stops growing.
How to activate: Dashboard → Customers → Possible Duplicate Customers or Merge Accounts. Both start out available to admins only — tell us if you want your managers to have them.

📜 The Account Change Log — Who Changed What, and When
Every change to a customer or employee record, written down.TORO now keeps a record of every change made to a customer or employee record. Change an email, adjust a discount band, move an account’s credit limit, add or remove a card on file, load gift card funds, take an item off someone’s balance, change a PIN — each one is written down with what it was before, what it is now, who did it, and which station they did it on.
Open Change History from any Account Details screen to see that one person’s timeline — and if they’re also an employee, their customer and employee changes appear together in one list, because they’re one person. For the store-wide view there’s a new Account Change Log tile on the Customers and Employees tabs. Each opens focused on its own people, and a Show dropdown switches between Customers, Employees or Both whenever you want to widen it.
Changes are grouped into categories — Dates, Discounts, Money and Balances, Contact Information, Security and Access, and more — so you can ask a question like “show me every discount change last month” instead of scrolling. Pick a date range, narrow to one employee, or just type in the search box. There’s also a new Profile Changes report in the Advanced Reporting Module’s High Risk section, with the same filters plus a CSV export, so it can be scheduled and emailed like any other report.
PINs are recorded as changed without ever storing the digits, and cards are recorded by brand and last four only — you get the accountability without a list of everyone’s secrets.
Recording starts the day this update lands; there’s no history for changes made before it.
How to activate: Account Details → Change History, or the Account Change Log tile on the Customers and Employees tabs. It starts out available to admins only — tell us if you want your managers to have it.

👋 The Customer Kiosk, Reimagined
They sign themselves up, see their own picks, and build an order — all before you say hello. The customer kiosk — the screens your customers touch — got a full makeover. The welcome screen, sign-in, cigar lookup, order builder and account screen all wear TORO’s modern look now: big touch cards, readable text, and the same teal style as the rest of the system. Sign-in now works for everyone, too — customers who never subscribed to text messages can sign in at the kiosk and see their points and rewards like anyone else.
New customers sign themselves up. The “New Here?” card opens a real sign-up screen: phone number on a big on-screen keypad (if the number’s already on file, it says so and points them to Sign In), then first name, last name, a 4-digit PIN entered twice, and an optional email. If you have the SMS module, sign-ups agree to loyalty texts right on screen and the welcome text goes out immediately — so they can reply START and start earning points before they leave the shop. And when someone forgets their PIN, a new Reset Customer PIN button (behind an employee login) lets your staff look them up by phone number or through the account finder and set a new one right there.
Signing in shows customers their own smoking story — how many different cigars they’ve tried all-time, how much of your current humidor they’ve explored and the number still waiting for them, plus their rewards progress and last visit at a glance. Below that, three lists of personal picks: Your Top Cigars (their favorites, with how long it’s been since the last one), Picked For You (cigars loved by customers with similar taste), and Shop Best Sellers (your most popular cigars they haven’t tried yet). Every list only ever shows cigars you actually have on the shelf.
And they can act on what they see. Tapping the + next to any cigar adds it to an order right on the account screen, and Order My Items prints the list for your staff to pull — no searching required. The order builder itself is friendlier too: a running item count and total, plain-English guidance everywhere, a big Place My Order button, and staff tools tucked out of the way.
How to activate: automatic — every kiosk screen updates with this release.

🎫 More Than One Coupon on a Sale
Coupons can now stack — but only the ones you say can.More than one coupon can now go on a single sale. Coupons stack when every coupon involved is set to allow it: there’s a new Allow to be used with other coupons box in the coupon editor, and it starts switched off, so nothing already in your customers’ hands behaves any differently than it did yesterday. The rule works both ways — a second coupon only goes on if the one already there allows company too — and when it can’t, TORO names the coupon that’s blocking it instead of just refusing. Minimum purchases add up, so two “$10 off a $50 purchase” coupons want a $100 sale.
Your rewards program can hand out stackable coupons automatically. The Reward Coupon and Welcome Coupon panels each have a Stackable with other coupons box, and birthday coupons have one on every tier. Set it once and every coupon that goes out is created that way. All of them start switched off.
Birthday coupons now get their own say about discounted items. Every spend tier in the birthday program has a second box — Allow to be used with other discounts — which decides whether the coupon that tier hands out may come off an item that already has a member or manual discount on it. Until now birthday coupons always sat on top of both and there was no way to change it. The new box starts switched off, to match every other coupon in TORO, so birthday coupons issued from here on stop combining with a customer’s discount level until you tick it on that tier. Birthday coupons already in your customers’ hands keep the rules they were issued with.
One kind of coupon is always used on its own. A coupon that gives away a single item — a free cigar, or a percentage off one item — can’t be combined with another coupon, because it claims one item for itself and a second coupon would be fighting over the same stick. Percentage and dollar-off coupons still stack as before. In the coupon editor and in your rewards program, the combine box is unticked and greyed out for that type, so you can see up front that it isn’t an option; at the register TORO tells you which coupon to take off first. Coupons you’ve already applied are left out of the Apply Coupon list, so you’re never offered one that’s already on the sale.
Underneath all of this, dollar-off coupons and customer discount levels now reduce the taxable amount of the sale properly and spread across the items they apply to, so your sales tax lines up with what the customer actually paid.
How to activate: open a coupon and tick Allow to be used with other coupons. For automatic coupons, Setup → Rewards Program.

🧾 Receipts That Spell Out Every Discount
The customer can see exactly what came off, and so can you.Receipts now itemize discounts. Every discounted item shows its original price and exactly what was taken off — a coupon prints right under the item as COUPON | 100% off = -$12.00 [DOT115], and a member or manual discount gets its own line. Below the items, a per-source summary lists each discount level and each coupon with its total, followed by a big, easy-to-read Total Savings. That number now prints on the guest copy too.
The rest of the receipt got tidier along the way: multi-pack items show a compact packaging tag on the name line (a box of 20 reads B(20)), single items are cleaner, $0 coupon lines are dropped rather than printed, and the whole receipt is more compact.
Set Up Receipts gained two new options, both on by default — Totals in Large Font and Show Discount Detail Per Item. Turn that last one off if you’d rather each item just show its final price and keep the breakdown to the summary at the bottom. And the size of the suggested-tip table now has its own picker on Set Up Tips — Normal, Large or Extra Large — sitting right beside the tip lines it prints with. Receipts don’t change until you pick one, and TORO shrinks the table automatically if a row wouldn’t fit the paper.
How to activate: automatic. Setup → Set Up Receipts to change the display options.

🧾 One Tax Line on the Receipt, If That’s How You Want It
Four tax lines and a stack of $0.00 rows, collapsed into one.Stores in a city with layered taxes can end up with four tax lines stacked at the bottom of every receipt — state, city, and any special tobacco or soda tax — plus a $0.00 line for each tax that didn’t apply to the sale. Set Up Receipts now has a Combine All Taxes Into One Line box in the “Items & Taxes on Receipt” panel. Tick it and the breakdown collapses to a single Total Tax row, for the same amount the receipt was already showing.
Leave it alone and nothing changes — the box ships switched off, so every store keeps its itemized breakdown until it asks for the shorter version. It applies to both the guest copy and the completed receipt.

🧾 The Check Number Prints on the Receipt
Reconcile a stack of checks without opening a single sale.Take a check at the register and the receipt now says which check it was — Check #1234, right next to the amount, instead of just Check. It prints on the customer’s copy, on your copy, and on the emailed and PDF receipts, so the paperwork matches whichever one ends up in the folder. Matching a stack of checks against the day’s takings no longer means opening each sale to find the number.
The same goes for the other payments that ask for a reference when you take them: a Venmo payment prints Venmo @jsmith, a Zelle payment Zelle-jsmith, and PayPal prints its transaction ID. Cash, cards and gift cards are unchanged, and so is any payment where no reference was entered.

🎟️ Apply a Coupon Without Knowing the Code
The coupons that are actually available, listed and ready to tap.The Apply Coupon window no longer starts with an empty box waiting for a code nobody remembers. It now lists the coupons that are actually available — the ones belonging to the customer on the sale, your store-wide promotions, or both — and the cashier just taps one and hits Apply (or double-taps it). Expired coupons and ones the customer has already used up are left out.
You decide what gets listed. A new Settings button on that window (owner or admin) gives you two independent switches, so you can show only your store promotions and keep personal coupons off the screen, the reverse, or turn both off and go back to plain code entry.
Typing a code with a stray space in it now works too — “PEN 403” finds PEN403 instead of “No coupon was found with that code.” With a customer on the transaction, their name and phone number sit at the top of the window in place of the old Change Phone Number button, and the coupon editor moved to its own clearly-labelled Edit Coupon button.
How to activate: automatic on the Apply Coupon screen. Change what’s listed with the Settings button on that window.

📋 Items Waiting on an Account Are Impossible to Miss
A red bar tells you what they owe — and TORO can pick the items that fit the money they hand you.Attach a customer who has items sitting unpaid on their account, and a red bar now appears above the item list showing exactly what they owe. Tap it to open their held items and pull any of them onto the sale. The bar disappears once everything has been added, so one glance tells you whether anything is still outstanding — no more customer walking out with their account balance intact because nobody thought to check.
And when the customer says “I want to put $75 toward what I owe”, the new Auto-Select Up To an Amount button takes the figure they name and picks the combination of their held items that comes closest to it without going over, then selects those lines for you. If nothing on the account fits under the amount, TORO says so instead of leaving you guessing.
The account items window itself got the modern TORO look while we were in there — bigger, clearer type, a proper item table, and a running count and total for everything on the account alongside the same figures for whatever you’ve selected. Add Selected Items to Transaction is now simply Add Selected to Sale.

⚡ QUICK ITEMS — Your Best Sellers, One Tap Away
The five things everybody buys, pinned to the top of the menu.A new QUICK ITEMS button sits pinned at the top of the main menu — a teal bar across both category columns holding the items you ring up most. Tap it (or just press the space bar with the search box empty) and every quick item appears as a full-size item button, one tap from the cart.
TORO starts each store off with its 5 most purchased items from the last year, so it’s useful the moment the update lands. From there it’s entirely yours:
- Check the new Quick Item box on Item Details to add or remove any item.
- Or right-click the QUICK ITEMS button (there’s also an Edit Quick Items pill next to the Back button) to open the manager: add items from the item finder, remove with a tap, drag to reorder, and give any button its own border color so the water is always the yellow one. Everything updates on the menu instantly — no restart.
- Don’t want it on a station? Untick Show QUICK ITEMS button in the same right-click Reorder / Hide Buttons screen you already use for categories — it’s set per station, so the back-office machine can differ from the counter.
How to activate: automatic — the button appears with your top 5 items. The Quick Items manager starts out available to admins only; the Quick Item box on Item Details is not restricted.

👤 Add an Employee in Four Short Steps
A guided set-up instead of a scavenger hunt.New Employee on the Manage Employees screen now asks one thing at a time: their cell number, then their name, then what they’re allowed to do, then a 4-digit PIN. That’s it — they can clock in straight away. You no longer have to know the old trick of typing a phone number into the customer search box to create someone, and you’re never dropped into the full customer screen to hunt for the handful of fields that actually matter.
TORO looks them up by phone first, so an employee who already shops with you keeps their existing account instead of picking up a duplicate. And one phone number means one employee — if that number already belongs to somebody on your staff, TORO says so on the very first screen and names them, rather than letting you get all the way to the end first.
The PIN box tells you as you type whether the code is free, and Pick one for me finds an unused one. Nothing is saved until you press Create Employee, so you can back up and change anything. Hiring a few people at once? Add Another Employee takes you straight back to the start.
A mailing address and an email address are no longer required on an employee. TORO used to refuse to save an employee without both, which meant staff who simply don’t have an email couldn’t be set up at all. Both are still worth filling in — the address is where company mail like a 1099 or W-2 goes, and it’s offered right in the new set-up — but neither will stop you now. A last name is now required, since it shows on payroll and sales reports.

💰 Tips, Sorted Out
The no-tip tab was a roach motel. Sales checked in and never checked out.The “Credit Card Transactions without a Tip” tab used to fill up and never empty, because the only thing deciding that list was whether a tip was greater than zero. A sale with a genuine $0 tip looked exactly like one nobody had touched yet, and a PIN debit sale — which the card networks will never let you tip after the fact — sat there forever.
There’s now a fourth tab, Marked No Tip. Press Mark No Tip on a sale and it moves there, with your name against it, so the next person knows it’s been dealt with. PIN-verified sales route themselves there automatically, and TORO tells you why a sale can’t be tipped (“PIN verified — a tip cannot be added to this sale” / “Marked as no tip by Joe”) instead of a flat “NO TIP ON TRANSACTION.” Changed your mind? Put Back on No Tip Tab.
For a card that can’t take an adjusted tip, Charge a Tip runs the gratuity as its own small sale. Because it’s a real gratuity line, it lands on the Automatic/Manual Added Gratuity tab and flows into payroll tip distribution — which is the only way that tip ever reaches the employee. The customer sees two charges on their statement; everything that can fail happens before the card is touched, and if anything goes wrong after the charge, TORO names the amount and the authorization code and tells you plainly not to run the card again.
A new Ask Employee for Tip Amount when completing Transaction option (on by default) prompts right at the register the moment the card comes back — enter the tip, press No Tip, or Skip it for later. And the Adjust Tips grid now shows the name on the card, so matching a signed slip to a row takes a second instead of a minute. The whole Adjust Tips window and Setup Tips got the modern TORO look while we were in there.
How to activate: the new tab and the Name on Card column are automatic. Setup → Set Up Tips to turn the ask-at-the-register prompt off.

🧾 A Rebuilt Closing Report
Where did every dollar come from today? The receipt that prints when you close the drawer has been redesigned around one question: where did every dollar come from today? Ruled lines now separate the report into blocks you can find at a glance.
The batch blocks come first, and they finally separate your two kinds of card money: Retail - Credit and Wholesale - Credit on their own lines, adding up with tips to the Batch Total your processor settled.
Then the payments themselves. RETAIL PAYMENTS lists every way customers paid — card, cash, gift cards, checks, Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, Cash App — and totals them. If wholesale accounts paid you that day, a WHOLESALE PAYMENTS block does the same for them, and an ALL PAYMENTS block combines both and closes with Total Retail, Total Wholesale and Total Sales. No wholesale that day? Those blocks simply don’t print. Payment types you didn’t use don’t print either — no more columns of $0.00.
The detail moved to the bottom where it belongs. PAYMENT DETAILS lists each check by its check number, ready to match against the checks in the drawer, and each wholesale payment under its account name. EMPLOYEE COMPS and STORE COMPS now show each comp with its transaction number and the employee who gave it, then total up.
One number to know about: Total Sales is now the money you actually took in that day. It previously counted only card and cash, so a day with a check in it reported less than you really took; and it no longer counts comps or gift card redemptions, which never put money in the drawer. It’s the number that should match your deposit.
Gift cards get their own blocks. GIFT CARDS SOLD lists the cards you sold that day and GIFT CARDS USED lists the ones customers redeemed, each split into virtual and physical with its own total. Redeeming a gift card no longer counts as a sale — the money came in the day the card was sold, and that sale is already in the payment lines as the cash or card the customer paid with. Counting it twice was overstating the year by around $3,000. Virtual gift card entries of $5 or less aren’t listed, since TORO uses virtual credit to round transactions and those aren’t real sales. Total Discounts for the day now prints under the sales totals.
Your cash drawer now closes out on the same page. A new CASH DRAWER DETAILS block lists every cash drop and payout with who did it and when, then walks the money: what you started with, cash sales, anything moved to the bank, and what should be sitting in the drawer when you open tomorrow. The column adds up — if it doesn’t, an Over / Short line tells you by how much.
Every one of these blocks follows the switches on your Set Up Receipts screen. Turn a section off and it disappears completely — you’ll no longer get a line telling you there were no gift cards on a receipt you didn’t want gift cards on.
How to activate: automatic. Setup → Set Up Receipts to choose which blocks print.

💵 Cash Drops, Payouts, and a Reminder Before the Drawer Gets Fat
Every dollar that moves in or out of the drawer, written down and wrapped.Recording cash that moves in or out of the drawer is now available to every store. Drawer Transaction lives in the Open/Close Drawer menu and on the Dashboard’s Transactions tab as Drawer - Add/Remove Cash: record a cash drop, a paid-out expense, or added change, with a manager-level PIN. Drops and expenses require a reason and print a slip — amount, reason, who and when — to wrap around the cash on its way to the safe.
At closing, the ? next to Manual Trans now opens the full list of the day’s drawer transactions, and the same list prints on the nightly Closing Report and the safe-deposit slip, so the drop bag always explains itself.
New Cash Drop Alert. On the Set Up Cash Drawer screen, tell TORO how much cash above opening is too much, and right after the cash sale that crosses the line the cashier gets a reminder with a one-tap Do Cash Drop Now button. It’s snoozable for 30 minutes, and setting the amount to $0 turns it off — which is how it ships, so nothing starts nagging until you ask it to.
Cash drops print a proper wrapper for the safe — the day’s pulls, a running total, and step-by-step directions to fold the money, wrap the slip around it, tape it and drop it. Expenses and added change print a short slip instead, telling the employee to put it in the large bill slot with the nightly closeout cash. Adding cash to the drawer used to print nothing at all. The Cash Drawer Settings screen was also modernized to the TORO look with larger, fully readable text.
How to activate: Open/Close Drawer → Drawer Transaction. For the alert, Setup → Set Up Cash Drawer.

📅 The Daily Report Now Compares Any Day, Week, Month or Year
How did today actually do — against every Saturday you’ve ever had?View Daily Total has been rebuilt in the modern TORO look, and it answers a bigger question than it used to. The day’s figures are all still there at a glance — sales, tabs, tips, the payment breakdown — but a new view selector switches the whole window between Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Year, or any dates you pick. The arrows page one period at a time, so stepping back through the last six Augusts takes six taps. Period views show the period’s totals up top and its per-day averages below, with the arithmetic printed right on the table so you can see exactly how a number was reached.
Every day now carries its own history. Open a Saturday and two tables show how it compares against your other Saturdays — one across rolling windows (the last 30 days, 6 months, one to five years, and all time), one by calendar year. Seven measures run across both: average total, transactions per day, average transaction, tips, commission, cigars sold per day, and the share of cigars that earned commission. The day you’re looking at sits in its own highlighted row above the history, and a ? button explains every column in plain words.
View Graphs turns those tables into charts — one per measure, drawn by year and against the rolling benchmarks, each with a dashed line marking the day on screen so you can see at a distance whether today beat its own history. Each chart also names the year-over-year move, green up and red down.
And while all that history is being gathered, the window now shows its progress — naming each step as it loads, with a Cancel button if you’d rather not wait — instead of sitting on a silent “Loading”.

📊 Make the Advanced Reporting Module Your Own
The reporting hub now remembers how you like to work — per employee.Star your favorites. Click the star on any report card and it jumps to the top of that tab. Use Only Favorites to hide everything else — and if you haven’t starred anything on a tab yet, it shows you everything instead of an empty screen.
Search across every report. Start typing in the search box and TORO looks through every tab at once, matching on the report’s name, its description, or the words you’d naturally use for it — “theft”, “P&L”, “till”, “payroll”. Ctrl+F jumps straight to the box.
Build your own tabs. Click New Tab at the bottom of the left column, name it, pick a color, then right-click any report and add it. Perfect for a “Month End” or “Monday Morning” list. Managers can copy a tab they’ve built to other employees.
Rearrange the cards. Click Edit Layout and use the arrows to put the reports you use most where you want them. Your layout is remembered, and the module opens right where you left off — same tab, same Only Favorites setting.

🔐 Decide Which Reports Each Role Can See
A cashier shouldn’t be looking at payroll.A new Manage Report Access button in the Advanced Reporting Module lets an owner or admin pick, for every access level, exactly which reports show up. Tick what they can see; anything you untick simply disappears from their screen — no padlocks, no “you don’t have permission” message to explain.
View as Employee opens the module exactly as one of your staff sees it, so you can check your work without logging out and back in as them. High Risk Events stays admin-only no matter what you tick, and hiding a report here never takes away that person’s access anywhere else in TORO.

🏆 New Report: Top Customers
Not a chart — a call list.Who spent the most between any two dates, and you decide how many names come back. Pick your date range, type in how many customers you want (25 by default), and you get a ranked list with each person’s phone and email right there in the row, so it’s something you can act on rather than admire.
Alongside the money it shows visits, gross profit, margin, average ticket, when they were last in, and how long ago that was — click any heading to re-sort by whichever of those you care about. A Move column shows how each customer’s rank changed against the previous stretch of the same length, so a regular quietly sliding down the list stands out, and NEW marks someone who wasn’t buying from you at all before. The summary across the top tells you what share of all your sales those customers account for.

📦 New Report: Overstock
Where is your money stuck on the shelf? The new Overstock Report compares what you have on hand against how fast it actually sells, and tells you how long your stock will last — in days, months or years. The first screen ranks every brand by the dollars tied up in excess inventory, so the biggest opportunities are at the top. Click a brand to see item by item exactly which products are sitting too long, with the slowest movers first. Anything that hasn’t sold at all in the period is flagged outright.
You choose the sales period used to measure how fast things sell, and how many days of supply you consider healthy (90 by default) — everything past that counts as overstock. Both screens sort by any column and export to CSV, and the report can be emailed to you automatically through a reporting profile. Available on every ARM plan, on the Inventory tab.

🕒 New Report: Tips & Commissions
What did tips and commissions actually come to, per hour worked?Payroll has always shown the tip and commission dollars — but never what they come to per hour worked, which is the number that tells you whether the counter shift or the lounge shift is the better place to be. The new Tips & Commissions report takes any date range and shows one line per employee: days and hours worked, card tips, tips per hour, commission, and commission per hour, with totals at the bottom and summary cards up top. Click any column heading to sort.
It counts card tips only — cash tips go straight into pockets and were never TORO’s to count. And employees who’ve since left still show for the dates they worked, so a range from last year adds up the same way it did last year.

📈 Reporting: Faster, and Every Period Accounted For
Two minutes of waiting became about three seconds. The Company sales report opens in a couple of seconds. On a store with a few hundred thousand transactions it used to sit and think for well over two minutes. The vendor lookup behind it was rebuilt and now takes about three seconds.
Alongside that, an item is credited to the vendor it was most recently purchased from. Where a brand is carried under both its maker and a distributor, the report now settles on one of them per brand rather than showing the item under whichever was reached first — so the same item lands with the same vendor every run. Where you buy a brand through a distributor, expect to see it under the distributor now. Purchasing budgets driven from this screen will follow the same figures.
Sales & Profit lists every week and every month in the range you pick. Quiet periods with no comped sales now appear in their own right on the Weekly and Monthly tabs rather than being folded in with a neighbour, so the row you’re looking at covers exactly the week or month named on it.
Special tax reporting values each sale at the cost recorded when it was made. The quarterly and monthly OTP screens work from the cost captured on each transaction, so reopening a period you’ve already filed returns the same figure it did at the time, no matter what has happened to that item’s cost since.
Top Selling Items groups each item under the category on its own item record, so an item that’s been re-categorised over the years reports in one place. And day-of-week analysis ranks days on their transaction totals, giving a like-for-like comparison across the seven days.

✉️ Set Up Your Store Email — and Find Out Exactly What’s Wrong
A real test that tells you what to fix, not just that something broke.Set Up Store Email is a whole new screen: your settings on the left, a connection test on the right. Press Run the Test and TORO checks the connection one step at a time — finding the mail server, opening the connection, securing it, signing in, and sending a real test email — with a green or red dot for each. A red dot comes with plain-English instructions for fixing that specific step, whether it’s a mistyped server name, a port your internet provider is blocking, or the wrong password. Nothing is saved until you press Save, so you can test as often as you like without breaking the email that already works.
Gmail in two clicks. Use Gmail Settings fills in the technical fields, and Set Up a Gmail App Password walks you through Google’s screens to create the special password Google now requires.
It also catches Gmail mistakes before they cost you an afternoon. The Password box now has an eye you can click to see what you typed. And if you’re on Gmail, TORO checks your work: it recognizes when an everyday Gmail password was pasted where the 16-letter App Password belongs (and points you to the Set Up a Gmail App Password button), accepts App Passwords pasted with their spaces still in, and makes sure the From Email matches the Sign-In Email — Gmail quietly ignores a mismatched From, so TORO now says so up front.
Copy for Support. The window shows the actual back-and-forth between TORO and your mail server. You don’t need to read a word of it — but one button copies it for a support email, which turns a long phone call into a quick answer. Your password is never included.
Previously this screen sent you off to an outside website to work out your settings, and its test only ever told you that something was wrong.

📩 Your Closing Reports Now Actually Go Out
Nothing is lost to a shutdown, a dropped connection, or a night you didn’t close. If you closed the drawer and shut TORO down soon after, the nightly store report and any scheduled Advanced Reporting emails could be cut off mid-send and were simply lost — no warning, no record, nothing in your inbox. TORO now shows you a progress window after you close the drawer, listing each report as it’s built and sent, and it won’t shut down until they’re on their way.
Nothing gets lost if the internet drops. Every report email is now saved before it’s sent, so if the connection is down at closing time it goes out automatically as soon as you’re back online — or the next time TORO starts. Previously an email waiting to be sent was thrown away on restart if it had attachments, which is exactly what report emails are.
Missed a night? TORO catches up. If the drawer wasn’t closed in TORO one evening, or the main computer was off, the reports for those days are sent the next time it runs — including the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports that landed on a day you were closed. Previously those were gone for good.
Clearer email problems. When an email doesn’t send, TORO no longer tells you your password is wrong when the real problem was the internet or your mail provider — and it retries on its own for several minutes instead of giving up after half a minute.

🔑 One Screen for TORO Portal & Insight Access
Who can get into what, colour-coded, on one page.Managing who gets into TORO Insight and the TORO Portal is now one clear screen. Open TORO Portal at the bottom-left of the Dashboard. Every TORO account at your store is one row, and each thing they can reach is a colour-coded column — green for yes, red for no — so you can see at a glance who has billing, proposals, the Think Tank or Insight without opening anybody up. The buttons that act on a person (Create User, Edit User) sit in a strip down the right-hand side; the ones that don’t (Generate Code, Link Unlinked) stay along the bottom.
Approving someone now happens where you’re already looking. Open Edit User and their status is the first thing on the window, with a green Approve User button right there if they’re still waiting. Their portal switches stay greyed out until you approve them — because until then they can’t see your store in either tool — and unlock the moment you do, so you can approve someone and set their features in one pass. A red PENDING in the Status column means that person isn’t switched on at your store at all; handing them a pairing code does the same job in one step.
Portal access can now be switched off and back on again. Untick Can access the TORO Portal and TORO tells you exactly what’s about to happen before you commit — billing, proposals and the Think Tank switch off with it, and they’re signed out straight away (including Insight, since it’s one login). Change your mind later and just tick it back on: they get the portal back with all three features on. Previously, turning portal access back on meant a brand-new pairing code — and in practice that couldn’t be done from the store at all, it needed a call to us. The same warning now appears before you take TORO Insight away, since that signs them out too.

Anyone who shops during the event is automatically tagged — so you can text “thanks for coming” or a follow-up offer to everyone who attended, straight from your usual SMS campaign tools.
Two new buttons on an event make the same thing work backwards: View Attendees shows you the full list of customers who purchased during the event, and Apply to Attendees tags everyone from a past event in one click — so an event you ran before this update can still become a campaign list.
The whole Store Events screen and its editor got a fresh, modern look with larger, easier-to-read text. Event details on a receipt now say “TODAY!” for an event happening today, and show a clean day-by-day countdown for the ones coming up.

🕑 Your Website’s Hours, Kept Current by TORO
Change your hours once — at the register. If your website shows your store hours, TORO can now keep them current. The Set Up Store Hours screen has a new Publish Hours To Your Website panel that says plainly whether your hours are being sent anywhere — no more finding out weeks later that the website has been telling everyone you’re closed. Website Settings is where you point it: your website’s address and a WordPress sign-in (an Application Password, created in WordPress under Users — not your login password).
Send Hours Now pushes your hours to the website on the spot and reports exactly what happened, in plain words — so after any change you can prove the website got it, instead of opening the site and hoping. Whenever your hours change from then on, TORO sends them along automatically. Stores already running their online store through TORO were getting this quietly; the new screen makes it visible, testable, and available to any store whose website can take the feed — get in touch and we’ll help your web person wire it up.

📁 My Store Documents — Your Licences and Logos, Ready to Send
A new home for the paperwork you send to vendors.Open My Store Documents from the Dashboard and everything you keep on hand is on one screen — tobacco licence, sales tax licence, permits, logos — each showing in plain English whether the copy on file is current, who uploaded it and when, and who you last sent it to.
Adding a document takes one step now. Pick the file, give it a name, save. The old screen made you save an empty record, close it, and reopen it before you were allowed to attach anything.
Emailing is built for how vendors actually ask. Attach several files to one email — your licence and your logo together — from a list showing what each document is, so you’re never guessing which file is which. TORO writes the message for you, lists what’s attached, and remembers who you’ve sent things to before, so the second time is one tap.
Expiration dates are tracked. Give a licence its expiry and its tile carries a countdown — green for a while, then yellow inside 45 days, dark orange in the last week, red once it has passed. A document with no expiry date says so, because that’s the one that quietly lapses. Each uploaded copy keeps its own date, so renewing a licence leaves the old copy showing what it was valid until.
And TORO will remind you. Once a month it asks whoever looks after these documents whether the licence copies are still current — more often as one gets close to running out. You can upload a new copy on the spot, say it’s up to date, or tell TORO a document doesn’t apply to your store and never be asked again.
Nothing is ever deleted: every older copy is kept, and you can put any of them back in front. Your existing File Management screen is untouched and still works — both read the same files, so you can move across whenever you like.

🚬 Employee Points, All in One Place
One tile, and every screen that has anything to do with staff points behind it.Employee Points is now a single tile on your Dashboard, opening one screen that gathers everything to do with staff points. From there:
- Point History — see every member of staff at a glance: how many points they have, what they’ve earned from shifts, and how many cigars they’ve smoked on points. Click anyone to see their full record: every shift, every bonus, and every cigar with what they paid for it.
- Give Bonus Points — brand new. You can now hand an employee points yourself, with a reason that shows up on their history so everyone can see where the points came from. There are +1, +5 and +10 buttons so you don’t need a keyboard, and it warns you if the amount would push someone past your usual maximum.
- Points Settings — the earn rules and discount tiers (this was “Employee Discounts & Points”).
- Set Up Required Cigars To Smoke and the Employee Smoke Impact report.
- Points Reports — the three Advanced Reporting Module reports about staff purchases and discounts, in one place.
Your discount rules are all visible now. TORO could only ever load one rule per price range, so if you’d set up more than one covering the same prices, the extras were invisible — you couldn’t see them or delete them. They’re all listed now. Nothing about what your employees pay has changed, but if you have duplicates you’ll be asked to tidy them up before saving, and TORO will send you a message explaining exactly what it found.

🚬 The Employee Points Screens, Rebuilt
Four screens that each do one job.All four Employee Points screens now match the rest of TORO, and each one has a single purpose.
Employee Cigar Points (the register’s Employee menu → Purchase an Item with Employee Points) leads with the employee’s balance in big, readable numbers and a plain-English box showing what a cigar will actually cost them before anything else opens. Most staff have nothing assigned to them, so the screen now leads with one button — Pick a Cigar From the Store — instead of an empty grid.
When you have assigned cigars, each one is a card showing what they’ll pay, the points it costs, and its own Buy This One button. Cards are badged NEXT UP or LOCKED, so the “finish priority 1 first” rule is visible before they tap, not delivered as an error message afterwards.
My Cigars & Reviews is now its own window — purchase history, review filters and the review button — reached from a button at the bottom of the points screen.
Employee Discounts & Points now reads as four plain sentences (“The employee earns __ points per hour worked, up to __ points”) instead of a wall of settings, and the three discount tables finally have Add, Edit and Remove buttons. They used to be +, * and −, and nothing anywhere told you the asterisk meant Edit. Each table now also says when it wins over the others. Required Cigars To Smoke is reachable straight from this screen, and asks you to pick an employee instead of going blank when nothing is selected.

🪙 Staff Cigar Purchases Round Their Change Too
The one cash sale in the building that still came back with pennies. If you round cash change up to the nearest nickel, that rule now applies when an employee buys a cigar with their points. It never used to — staff purchases were the one cash sale in the building that still came back with pennies.
The couple of cents goes onto the employee’s own virtual gift card, not the charity account customer change goes to. They overpaid it, so they get it back, and it builds up as store credit toward their next pick. Nothing pops up asking where the change should go — the employee just sees the amount due land on a nickel.
Cash only, since there’s no change to round on a card or a gift certificate. Stores that don’t round change see no difference at all.

💼 A Payroll Email Your Rep Will Actually Thank You For
Everything readable in the message, a spreadsheet riding along.Send Payroll to Rep now delivers a clean, modern email with everything in the message itself: your Payroll Account ID front and center, each employee’s hours, tips, commission, and bonus in easy-to-read tables, verification totals at the bottom, and your special notes called out in their own highlighted box. If that confirmation didn’t go through — even for a second — TORO used to refuse the payment and tell you the charge wasn’t in the batch, leaving you to ring the sale up as Cash or Other while the customer’s card had already been charged. TORO now tries the confirmation again, and if it still can’t get through it accepts the approved payment, tells you plainly not to run the card a second time, and asks you to check it in Find & Fix Duplicate Charges before you close the drawer.
Find & Fix Duplicate Charges can now put such a charge back where it belongs. When a card really was charged but the sale ended up rung as Cash or Other, the charge is flagged “CHARGED, RUNG AS OTHER → RELINK” with a RELINK Charge to Sale #___ button that moves the sale onto the card payment. The card is not charged again and nobody is refunded — it just corrects how the sale was paid, so your day matches the processor’s deposit.
Because voiding one of those charges would refund a customer who only ever paid once — and leave the sale recorded against money nobody handed over — pressing VOID on a relink charge now stops you with a clear warning explaining the loss and steers you to the RELINK button instead. You can also right-click any charge to copy its processor key, its payment ID, or all of its details at once, which is handy when support asks you to read one of those long codes over the phone.

💳 Attach a Card TORO Couldn’t See
A card added anywhere but TORO can finally be put on the right customer. When a customer’s card gets added somewhere other than TORO — in your processor’s own virtual terminal, through a payment link, or by their support team on the phone — TORO had no way of knowing whose card it was. It never appeared on that customer’s Card on File screen and couldn’t be used for a billing schedule. There was no way to attach it. The new Paya Contact Linker lists exactly those cards — the ones sitting at your processor with nobody attached — and puts each one on the right account in a click.
TORO suggests who it thinks each card belongs to, either from the phone number on it or from a mark TORO left behind on a card it set up earlier, and those rows are highlighted so you can see at a glance which ones it can place for you. The button is named after the account, so who you’re agreeing to is written on the button itself, and the confirmation tells you why TORO thinks it’s that person. If the suggestion is wrong, or there isn’t one, look the customer up the way you always do. Wholesale accounts work the same way. And because another station may have linked the same card while your window sat open, TORO re-checks before it saves and tells you rather than attaching it twice.
Nothing is charged, and no card is created, changed or deleted at your processor. All this does is make a card that was already there visible on the customer it belongs to.

🛡️ Safety Stock on Analytic Orders, and Three Fixes to Receiving
For the items a manufacturer keeps backordering. You can now set a safety stock on a single item. Right-click any item on the Analytic Purchase Order screen and set how many extra you want kept on the shelf as a cushion, on top of what TORO normally orders. It’s measured in single cigars rather than boxes, and the prompt tells you the box size so there’s no guessing. Setting one will make TORO order more of that item from then on.
TORO also suggests one. A new column looks at how often an item has actually come up short from the manufacturer, blending what it knows about that item, that brand and that vendor, and suggests a cushion. It is only ever a suggestion — it never changes your order unless you set a safety stock yourself. Where there isn’t enough ordering history to judge, the column stays blank rather than showing a zero, because blank means “we don’t know yet”, not “this manufacturer is reliable”. Hover any row to see the reasoning in plain language.
Short shipments are now recorded properly. When a purchase order line comes up short, TORO keeps what you originally ordered alongside what actually arrived. Before, the order was simply rewritten as if you’d ordered the smaller amount, so nothing anywhere showed that a manufacturer had let you down — and if nothing at all turned up, the line vanished from the order completely. It now stays, showing zero received.
Fixed: stock could go missing when a receive was interrupted. If you moved part of a short line to backorder and then cancelled a later prompt, nothing was saved — but the order had already been quietly reduced behind the scenes. Scanning in the rest and finishing the receive then recorded only the smaller amount, and the boxes that did arrive were written off.
Fixed: backorders raised while receiving are now tied to the order they came from. They were being saved before the purchase order had been given its number, so they ended up floating loose — which is why some backorders have shown up as coming from “PO-null”.
Fixed: the purchase order list showed the wrong total after a short receive. The list showed the amount ordered while the order itself showed what arrived — most obviously on an order where nothing turned up, which listed a total while containing nothing.
Two small extras on the Analytic Purchase Order screen: an optional Show Manufacturer Sku column, and quantities you type into Manually Added Order now survive ticking Show Ids or Load All Active instead of being thrown away.

🗺️ Inventory Locations — Every Shelf Assignment on One Screen
Where it’s displayed, where the backstock lives — and who moved it.If you use inventory locations, there’s now one window that shows every assignment in the store: one row per item, its display location and backstock location side by side, sorted by shelf. Type a few letters of the brand or item and the list narrows as you type. Two buttons select every item that’s missing a display location or missing a backstock location, so the gaps find themselves.
And you fix things right there. An empty side has a SET button that opens the location picker; an occupied one has ADJUST, which opens an editor where you can change the location, clear it, or add another — an item can live in more than one spot per side. Print Locations turns the list into a printable walk-the-store sheet, sorted by shelf. And when a section gets rebuilt, Clear Locations wipes the assignments for the whole list or just the rows you’ve checked — behind three confirmations and your own PIN, because there’s no undo.
Every change is written down. Location History shows who assigned, moved or cleared what and when — and a change made by mistake can be rolled back from right there. Printed receipts, purchase orders and shelf labels also print locations more cleanly now: an assignment with an unused middle part no longer drags a stray separator onto the paper. Location lists sort numbers like numbers — 1, 2, 3 … 9, 10, 11 — and emptying out a big cabinet shows its progress instead of freezing the screen.
The same picture is available as a new Inventory Locations report in the Advanced Reporting Module’s Inventory section, so it can be scheduled and emailed like any other report.

📧 Email a Rep Straight From TORO
An ETA on a backorder, this month’s specials — without leaving the screen you’re on.There’s now an Email Rep button on the Representative Editor and a Message Rep button on the Purchase Order Editor, next to Email & Print. Type a subject and a message, hit Send, and the rep gets a clean, professional email in the same branded style as your purchase orders — your store name up top, your contact info, and the TORO logo at the bottom. If a vendor has several reps, TORO asks which one you mean.

🔍 Find an Item by the Manufacturer’s SKU
When all you have is the number printed on the vendor’s invoice.Search by the manufacturer’s SKU. The Find Item screen and the Item Catalog tab now search the manufacturer SKU you save on an item’s SKU, and you don’t need the whole thing — type any part of it. The search box header now reads “Search Item Name, Manf Sku, Item ID or Scan Barcode”.
No more landing on the wrong item. Some numbers mean two things at once — a manufacturer SKU on one item can be the item number of a completely different one. TORO used to just pick one and open it. Now, when a number could mean either, it shows you both and lets you choose instead of guessing.
Active Only really means active only. Typing an item number with the Active Only filter switched on could open an inactive item anyway. It no longer does — switch to Inactive Only or All when you want to find something that’s been deactivated. A retired SKU number also stops pulling up an active item while you’re browsing active ones.

🏭 Name Items the Way Your Manufacturer Does
So the purchase order reads right at their end.An item can now carry a Manufacturer Name alongside the name you use in the store. When you send a purchase order, TORO prints the manufacturer’s name for that item instead of yours — because the person reading that order is looking it up in their catalog, not yours. Every other document (wholesale invoices, returns) keeps your own name, and so does a purchase order for any item you haven’t given a manufacturer name.
While we were in there, the Item Details screen shed some clutter. The settings that used to crowd it — Manufacturer Name, Brand Line, Transaction Notes, Search Tags, Minimum Purchasing Age, Eligible For Rewards and Item Reviews — moved behind an Additional Item Settings button. Same fields, same Save button, just not in your way when you’re doing the everyday work.

🏦 Choose Which Sku Goes on the Sale by Default
If your customers usually buy the double, stop correcting every sale.Until now, ringing up an item always grabbed the sku with the fewest items in it — so a bar selling mostly double shots had to correct every sale. Item Details now has a Set Transaction Sku button: pick the sku your customers usually buy and that’s what lands on the transaction from the item button, the brand grid, and search.
The sku table shows a green block in the new TRANS SKU column for whichever sku is the current default — the one you set, or the smallest sku when you haven’t set one. Scanning a barcode still rings up exactly the sku that was scanned. Stores that don’t touch the button see zero change.

💰 Set the Cost Rule for “Cost & Retail at Time of Transaction” Items
50% of retail was never right for everybody. When converting an item to Provide Cost & Retail at Time of Transaction, TORO now asks how the default Cost should be calculated: a percent of the retail (it was always 50%) or a flat dollar amount, and whether the employee can adjust it at the register or it’s fixed.
The recorded cost is always at least $0.01 on a sale, so profit reporting never sees a zero-cost line. Items converted before this update keep the old behavior — 50% of retail, adjustable.

The dropdown finally fits what’s actually on your shelf. The Shape and Color lists on Item Details are no longer fixed. A small + button next to each dropdown opens a manager screen where you can add your own values — and rename or remove the ones you added.
TORO’s built-in values are marked System and stay put, so every store keeps a common baseline. Removing a value that items still use warns you first, then moves those items to “Unknown”. Anything you add shows up immediately in the dropdowns and in the Cigar Finder filters.

🏷️ Coupon Screens, Rebuilt
Bigger, clearer, and they tell you what a coupon is actually worth.Build a coupon from one you already have. Open any coupon and press CREATE COUPON LIKE THIS. TORO saves the one you’re on, closes it, and opens a fresh copy carrying every setting — the discount, the dates, the day-of-week rules, the item and product-type lists. Change the one thing that’s different and press Save. The copy gets its own new coupon code automatically, and nothing is saved until you save it, so you can back out and lose nothing. Building a run of similar coupons no longer means retyping twenty settings each time.
Look a customer up instead of typing their number from memory. Restrict to a Single Phone Number now has a LOOKUP button beside it — press it, find the customer the way you always do, and their number drops straight in, with the restriction ticking itself on.
The coupon editor itself is bigger and easier to read, carries the TORO look, and now spells out what the coupon is worth in large type — $5.00 OFF, 30% OFF — as you set it. Percentage coupons carry a note telling you to enter the percent as a decimal (0.1 = 10%), which is the thing people got wrong most often.
The Coupon Viewer was rebuilt too: bigger text, a full-width list, buttons along the bottom, and column headings that no longer cut off mid-word. Expired and switched-off coupons are dimmed, so what’s still good is obvious at a glance instead of needing you to read the End Date on every row. And the list now opens clean: expired coupons are hidden to begin with, so you see the handful still live instead of scrolling past years of dead ones. A new Hide Expired box in the search row starts ticked — untick it to see them again — and coupons with no expiration date always show. The button that gets you there is now called View Coupons; it used to say “Modify Existing Coupon”, which undersold what it does.
A customer’s own coupon list now colour-codes everything. Two columns replace the old cramped “Valid” one: Dates is green when the coupon can be used right now, yellow when it can’t be used yet (it starts later, or today isn’t one of its days), and red when it’s expired or switched off. Uses Remaining is green while there are uses left and red once it hits zero — and it now counts what that customer has left where a coupon is capped per person (“2 Uses Left For This Customer”) rather than showing a shared total that may not apply to them. The list opens showing only what that customer can actually redeem today, with Show Expired, Show Inactive and Show Store Coupons to widen it — and TORO remembers how you left them.

📄 Short Item Names — Screen and Receipt, Separately
Full names where the cashier needs them, short ones where the paper runs out.Every item has a Full Name and a Short Name, and until now a single option decided both — turn short names on for the receipt and your cashiers got them on screen too, whether they wanted them or not. Now the receipt keeps its own Use Short Name For Items option in Set Up Receipts, and the sale screen has its own Use short item names option at the bottom of Set Up Transactions & Tabs, under Sale Item List.
Both start out showing the full name, so nothing changes until you pick. Most shops want exactly this split: the full name on screen so the cashier can tell two similar sizes apart, the short name on paper so long names don’t run off the edge.

📅 Your Checklist Knows the Days You’re Closed
And a station left running overnight picks up the new day on its own.The closing checklist’s auto-print countdown now works off your posted hours for each day individually. On a day you’re marked closed there’s no closing time to count down to, so TORO simply doesn’t go looking for one — your closing list stays available to print by hand from the Open/Close Drawer menu whenever you want it.
And if a station stays powered on overnight, it now picks up the new day on its own. The morning list, the evening list and the countdown all follow the day the store is actually trading, using the same start-of-business-day hour the rest of TORO uses. A station left running no longer has to be restarted to see today’s list.
The same day-by-day hours are respected at clock-out — staff finishing up on a day the store is marked closed are no longer asked to explain a late punch against a closing time that doesn’t exist.

🔌 The Network Configuration Tool — When the Registers Can’t Connect
The checklist a support call used to walk you through, with a Fix button.Your main station is the computer the other registers connect to — and a Windows update or a new router can quietly close that door, leaving every other register unable to start. Until now the answer was a support call and twenty minutes of “now click Advanced…”. The new Network Configuration Tool runs that whole checklist itself, the moment it opens: is the database running, is it accepting other computers, is Windows treating your store network as private, is the firewall letting the registers in — a green or red dot for each, and a one-line verdict underneath telling you where things stand.
Then Fix These For Me repairs what it found, behind a single Windows permission prompt. What Does This Tool Do? shows the full plain-English explanation of everything it checks and everything it changes — the same page as its Help Manual article — so you can read exactly what you’re agreeing to before you press anything. And if something needs us after all, Copy for Support puts the whole picture on the clipboard, which turns that twenty-minute call into a two-minute one.
It lives on the main station, because that’s the computer that has to let the others in.

🏆 Coming Soon: The Membership Module
Your recurring memberships, recorded against the right customer — without anybody keying them in.If you bill members monthly on a card, that money moves on your processor’s schedule, not yours. No sale ever gets rung for it, so the charge doesn’t show up in your numbers, the member’s account credit doesn’t move, and a declined card stays invisible until that person turns up at the counter expecting their discount.
The Membership Module closes that gap. It finds the membership charges your processor has already run, records the matching sale against the right customer, and gives you a month at a time — who paid, who declined, and what your memberships actually brought in. You decide which of your discount levels count as memberships, what each one charges, and what should happen to a member’s discounts if their card declines.
It’s finishing testing at our own shop and isn’t switched on for anyone yet. Want to be one of the first stores on it? Get in touch and we’ll set you up as soon as it’s ready — the full guide is already written if you’d like to see what it does first.

🔧 Under the Hood
- TORO Marketplace is now a tile on your Dashboard. Order receipt paper, labels and other supplies from us, and turn TORO modules on, from the Modules & Integrations tab or TORO Configuration — no hunting through menus.
- The Barcode Tool can show you every item that still needs a store barcode. The Barcode dropdown has a new Without a 13-Digit Barcode option. “Without Any Barcode” only ever found items with nothing at all — but an item carrying just a manufacturer UPC still needs a TORO barcode before you can print a label for it, and those were invisible. Pick the new option, then Create 13-Digit Barcodes to fill them all in at once.
- Payroll now checks you have somewhere to send it before you start. Do Payroll needs a Payroll Contact Name and Payroll Contact Email on Payroll Settings — that’s the person your payroll summary gets emailed to. If either is blank, TORO tells you which two fields to fill in rather than letting you sort through a whole pay period’s shifts first. Don’t use an outside payroll company? Put your own name and email in and it comes to you.
- Changing an employee’s access level takes effect right away. Promote a cashier to shift lead and the settings that come with the role — discount limit, comp limit, how much explanation TORO asks for on a discount or a stock change — used to keep running on the old role until TORO was restarted. They switch over the moment you save now. Anything set for that person individually still stays with them, as always.
- Making someone an Admin User sticks immediately too. A newly promoted admin can be reached straight away by the things that go to admins — texted password-override codes, admin-only notifications — instead of after the next restart. Same when you demote someone or mark them inactive: they come off those lists right away. And if you edit the employee who is currently logged in, their own preferences (theme, text size) update on screen instead of waiting for the next login.
- Greyed-out boxes no longer look like mistakes. Any field TORO had switched off — because the checkbox above it wasn’t ticked, say — was outlined in red as though you’d typed something wrong in it, on screens throughout TORO. A box you can’t type in is no longer flagged. Boxes you can type in still turn red when something needs filling in.
- Store coupons now actually appear on a customer’s coupon list. Ticking what used to be “Show Coupons Available to ALL Accounts” added nothing, no matter how many store-wide coupons you had — any coupon set to unlimited uses, or with no expiration date, was being left out of the search entirely, which is most store-wide promotions. They show up now.
- A coupon left with nothing to discount no longer sits on the sale doing nothing. Take the item off and TORO moves the coupon to the next item it fits; when there’s nothing left for it, it tells you the coupon is being removed rather than leaving it there. Adding more items is picked up straight away too — if TORO told you the sale was too small for a coupon, ringing up another item and trying again now works instead of still reporting the old total. And a percentage coupon set to allow other discounts now adds to a customer’s discount level instead of replacing it.
- A free-cigar reward now says “FREE ITEM” instead of “$1.00”. If your rewards program gives away a whole cigar (Coupon Type Discount On Item at 100%), the screen your staff use to hand those coupons over called each one $1.00 — so three free cigars announced themselves as “worth $3.00 total”. They now read FREE ITEM, with the minimum purchase underneath, and the banner says how many coupons the customer is getting and what each one is worth. Dollar-off reward coupons are unchanged. The coupons themselves were always correct — only what your staff read while handing them over was wrong.
- The Coupon Viewer no longer shows a blank Type column. Any coupon set to Discount On Item had an empty cell where every other coupon showed its value. It now reads
FREE ITEM [$30.00 required]or25% OFF ITEM. - Backing out of a brand no longer quietly filters your next search. Tap into a brand on the sale screen, then tap a category to come back out, and the search box was still limited to the brand you’d just left — so an item you knew you had came back as not found. Leaving the item list now clears that.
- Escape on the Dashboard behaves itself. If you’ve typed in the Dashboard search box, Escape clears what you typed. Press it again on an empty box and TORO asks whether you meant to close the Dashboard, exactly as clicking the X does — it used to shut the window without asking.
- Sorting the Sales Tax screen works. Clicking a column header on the transaction items table used to do nothing at all. The Net Sales labels read correctly now and Discounts come first.
- The Employee Purchase report no longer overstates Retail Value, and an employee points purchase now records its discount the right way round — both were counting the quantity twice.
- The Discounts report explains what it leaves out. A footnote now says employee purchases are excluded, so the total lines up with what you expected.
- Emailed and printed receipts for out-of-state and tax-exempt sales now include a Shipping Information section — the exemption type, who it shipped to, and the shipping method, ship date, tracking number and notes when you’ve entered them. The receipt button on a transaction now reads EMail/Print Receipt, to make clear it does either.
- The “?” button on the TORO Telephone card opens its help page again — it had been pointing at a page that no longer existed.
- Import Contacts explains itself when you leave the Phone Number column blank. It now tells you your contacts will get made-up phone numbers and walks you through picking the right column (the first column is 1), instead of just saying “no phone number index is setup.” Import Gift Cards had the opposite problem — it showed a warning about phone numbers when the Current Value column was blank. It now tells you every card will come in at $0.00 and how to point it at the right column.
- The sidebar’s bottom buttons highlight properly. Locked, Price Check, Cigar Finder, Sales Assistant and Open Drawer now use the same teal as the rest of the sidebar on hover, instead of a much fainter tint that was easy to miss in dark mode.
- Discount popups read the same in light and dark mode, the discounts breakdown box is wider so long discount-level names and full coupon codes fit, and it has a plain X to close it. A coupon marker line on the receipt now reads as a coupon rather than looking like a quantity item.
- The Advanced Reporting Module opens with the ARM lighthouse logo and opens noticeably faster. Report cards on a short row keep their normal size instead of stretching across the screen, every tab starts its cards at the top, the category list down the left fits without a scrollbar, and the report counts beside each category are much easier to read.
- On Employee Discounts & Points, pressing Enter used to close the window and throw away everything you’d just typed — Cancel was wired up as the default button. Enter no longer does anything there; use Save. Error messages on the employee points screens were also being written to a label hidden behind the tab area since the screen was built, so nobody ever saw them — they now appear where you’d expect.
- Show Customer Name in the Coupon Viewer updates the list the moment you tick it, instead of waiting until you press Search again.
- The Purchase Order screen asks for the right thing when a company has no representative. It used to say you must assign a rep “with phone number & service provider or email”. Sending a purchase order needs an email address, so that’s what it asks for now — and it offers to open the company so you can add one there and then.
- The online store sync no longer quietly stops. If you run an online store, the TORO SYNC tool could run for a while and then stop sending items across — buttons in that window going unresponsive was usually the first sign — and only closing and reopening it got things moving again. It now works through the items that are genuinely due instead of piling up work it has already done, so it stays responsive and keeps going. A single problem item can no longer halt the whole run either; it’s set aside and tried again later.
- Membership sales settle their books the moment they complete. Monthly and annual membership sales now write every figure, to the penny, at the moment of sale, and a background process that used to tidy up after them on the main station has been retired. Less background churn, and books that balance to the cent.
- Voids, tabs and on-hold items keep your tax records tidier. Moving a sale’s items to a tab or onto an account, and voiding, now carry every behind-the-scenes tax record along with them and clean up after themselves — so the sales-tax figures behind your reports always reflect exactly what happened at the register.
- Outline buttons have their teal back. Every outline-style button across TORO — Cancel, Clear, Open Drawer and about 75 more — now paints a proper teal border with teal text instead of a washed-out gray that made them look unfinished, especially in dark mode.
- Two settings moved to where you’d look for them. The employee clock-out slip (“print a slip of hours and shift information”) now lives in Payroll Settings, and the Receipt Method for New Guests (SMS / E-Mail / Print) now lives in Set Up Receipts. Same settings, same saved values — just filed where they belong. The Set Up Transactions, Tabs & Items window was modernized to the TORO look at the same time.
- Losing the internet is calmer. The sign-in screen itself now says No Internet Connection — and to restart TORO once it’s back — instead of a small red line tucked into the header. And the scheduled sales report stops popping an error at the register every time it can’t send while the internet is down; it simply sends when the connection returns.
- A register that can’t find the main station now helps you fix it. The searching screen lets you type the main station’s address in yourself, tells you exactly where to read it (the
DB:line across the top of any working register), and opens straight into the network fix when the problem is on the main station’s side. - The suggested-tip table prints without clipping. Some receipt printers claim slightly more width than they can actually print, which could shave the last character off the tip table’s right-hand column. TORO now sizes it against what the printer has proven it can print.
- Humidor monitoring stops nagging when your password is wrong. If the email or password saved under your SensorPush connection stops working — you changed it in the SensorPush app, say — TORO used to keep trying to sign in every fifteen seconds, all day, forever. It now tries five times and leaves it alone. To start it again, put the right password into Setup → SensorPush and press Test Credentials: if it connects, monitoring resumes on the spot, with no need to restart TORO.
