Adjusting Tips at the End of the Day
Tips written on a slip don't reach anybody until somebody types them in. That's what the Tips for Day window is for — it lists the day's card sales, shows you which ones are still waiting on a tip, and lets you key them in before the batch closes.
Opening it
From the Dashboard, open Tips for Day. It opens on today by default. If you're an admin you'll also see a Day of Sales date picker in the top right — change the date and the whole window reloads for that day.
The four tabs
The tab titles carry running counts and totals, so you can see where you stand without clicking into anything.
Credit Card Transactions without a Tip — the work list. Every card sale that hasn't had a tip entered yet. When this tab is empty, you're done.
Credit Card Tipped Transactions — sales that already have a tip, with the count, the total and the average.
Automatic/Manual Added Gratuity — gratuity that was rung as a line item rather than added to a card, including tips charged separately (see below).
Marked No Tip — sales somebody has confirmed aren't getting a tip. Nothing here is waiting on you.
Entering a tip
Select the sale and press Adjust Tip. Type the amount, confirm who it's assigned to, and save. TORO sends the adjustment to the card processor and records it.
The columns tell you which sale is which — date and time, transaction number, the last four digits, the Name on Card, and the total.
Name on Card only appears for sales taken after this feature shipped. Older sales leave it blank — the information wasn't being saved before, and it can't be filled in after the fact.
Getting sales off the list
The point of the first tab is that it should empty out. Two things kept it from ever emptying, and both are handled now.
When there's genuinely no tip
Select the sale and press Mark No Tip. It moves to the Marked No Tip tab and stops cluttering the work list. TORO records who marked it, so a tip can't quietly disappear without a name attached.
Marked one by mistake? Select it on the Marked No Tip tab and press Put Back on No Tip Tab. It returns to the work list.
When the card was paid with a PIN
Some sales can never take a tip adjustment — the customer entered a PIN, and their bank locked the exact amount. These used to sit on the list forever, because no amount of pressing Adjust Tip would ever work.
They now stay on the work list where you can see them, and the reason column says so plainly:
PIN verified - run card again to charge a tip
Press Adjust Tip on one of those and TORO opens the second-charge window instead of the usual one. You don't have to spot the difference yourself — press the same button you always press and TORO routes you correctly.
Running the tip charges the customer's card a second time, so they'll see two charges. The tip still reaches the employee. Full explanation here.
Reprinting a slip
Select any sale and press Reprint Receipt — handy when the original slip walked off with somebody or the tip line is illegible.
Your totals
Bottom left shows Total Tips for the day, Your Tips — your own share, worked out from how tips are set to be assigned — and Your Commission, with a View Commissions button for the detail.
The note underneath tells you which rule is in force: tips split evenly between everyone clocked in, or assigned to whoever types them. That's set in Setting Up Tips.
Sales by product type
Tick Load Sales By Product Type at the bottom to see what a selected sale actually contained, broken down by category with each category's share of the total. It's slower to load, which is why it's off by default — leave it off unless you're looking into something specific.
